CASSELBERRY, Fla. — Charles A. “Buddy” Pope, 71, died on Aug. 26, 2018, in his home after a long illness.

He grew up in Capron, Virginia, and was a son of the late James D. “Punk” Pope and the late Dorothy Jones Pope.

Buddy enjoyed playing football and baseball at Southampton County High School, and had fond memories of attending Ferrum College. He inherited his father’s love of horses and spent many years working with trotters and pacers.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Bradshaw Pope from Franklin, Virginia; a sister, Katie P. Edwards and her husband, Tye; two brothers, James D. “Pete” Pope and his wife, Jane, and Benjamin Gregory Pope and his wife, Kitty Lou; and an aunt, Ethel “Dick” P. Francis, all of Capron; four nephews, Jim, Joe, Josh and Bland; two nieces, Jennifer and Jessica; and several cousins.

At Buddy’s request, no services will be held.
