FRANKLIN — Samuel Solomon Banks Sr., 90, was born on July 8, 1928, in Hertford County, North Carolina. He was the son of the late Sherwood and Nannie Banks. He peacefully departed his earthly body on Aug. 22, 2018, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his beloved family just the way he wanted.
He accepted the position as deacon at Diamond Grove Baptist Church, Franklin, at an early age. Soon afterwards he became chairman of the deacon board where he served for 50-plus years. Deacon Samuel S. Banks Sr. was a well-respected, God-fearing, Bible-talking, hardworking, praying man with a passion for farming.
He leaves to cherish so many great memories through his wife, Hazel Banks; his sister, Henrietta Barham; six children; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, the Diamond Grove Baptist Church family and friends to carry on his legacy.
The late Deacon Samuel S. Banks Sr. will forever be remembered for his warm, loving, charming spirit that filled the room.
The celebration of life service will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 26, in Diamond Grove Baptist Church, 30466 Riverdale Drive, Franklin.
Viewing will be on Saturday, Aug. 25, from 4 to 7 p.m. in Elvin Vaughan Funeral Home, Franklin.
