Della Hayden would be proud

To the Editor:

This letter is in reference to the Hayden High School Wildcats Reunion, which was held on Aug. 11, 2018. The phrase “native son” is defined as a person born in a particular place. Just for a moment, allow me to redefine it as persons educated in a particular place. With that being said, I will say this: Della Hayden would be proud of her “native sons:” Clarence Baker, a prominent businessman and entrepreneur’ and Dr. Alvin Harris, a well-known and respected physician.

Because of their dedication to the legacy of Della Hayden, their love for Hayden High School, their pride in being a Hayden High School graduate and their goodwill toward all students attending Hayden High School, Clarence Baker and Alvin Harris orchestrated and financed the return to the sacred grounds where Della Hayden made a life-lasting impact in educating black children in Franklin. It was a grand celebration, which was attended by a massive number of Hayden High School Wildcats both near and far.

I feel that I can speak on behalf of many who attended this grand occasion: Thank you, Clarence Baker; Thank you, Alvin Harris, for your selflessness in sharing your knowledge, your wisdom and your financial success.

Della Hayden would have been proud of her native sons!
