Another year, another fair

Where did the good times go, eh? Only a week ago today the Franklin-Southampton County Fair was starting with Haleigh Andrew crowned as the new reigning queen that evening.

In those four days of the annual event, exhibitions celebrated the rich agricultural history and output of the region. Young 4-H’ers brought livestock for judging and viewing. Speaking of which, members of the Britches and Boots Equestrian Club attended to recruit new riders. Wonder how many new people signed up?

There were plenty of craftsmen and vendors to found, and let’s not forget the carnival food — the best kind.

Of course there were many attractions on the midway with rides to thrill or shows to entertain.

Naturally, music regularly filled the air as bands such as Silver Street and Confederate Railroad played. The fair was fortunate to get Adam Doleac and Natalie Stovall as guest artists.

We urge residents to get involved with next year’s fair committees, especially if there’s something that could have been improved or added. Your involvement can help make the difference between a good fair and a great one.
