Carol ‘Pete’ Porter

NEWSOMS — Mr. Carol “Pete” Porter of Thomaston Road departed this earthly life to claim his eternal rest and peace on July 30, 2018, while a patient in Riverside Rehabilitation Institute, Newport News, Virginia.

He was born on Sept. 11, 1951, in Southampton County to Virginia S. Porter and the late Everett Porter Sr.

Pete was a graduate of the Southampton County Public School System and furthered his education at Paul D. Camp Community College where he earned his certification in welding.

In May 2018, Pete retired from Huntington Ingalls Shipbuilding where he was employed as a welder for over 40 years.

He was a member of Mount Tabor Baptist Church for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby J. Porter; one daughter, Melinda Whitehead (Micheal;) one son, Travis Porter; his mother, Virginia Porter; three sisters, Maxine, Delphia and Michelle (Terrence;) three brothers, Doug (Grace,) Everett (Linda) and Dennis; three grandchildren; and many other relatives.

The service to remember him with love will be at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 5, in Mount Tabor Baptist Church, 28668 N. Main St., Newsoms, with the pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Cole, delivering the eulogy.

His remains will rest in church for viewing by noon. The committal and benediction will be in Davis Family Cemetery, Ivor, Virginia.

A traditional service with dignity will be performed by Wm. M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home Inc., 224 St. Main St., Franklin.
