Ollie Wayne Kirkland

BOYKINS — Ollie Wayne “Mutt” Kirkland, 92, passed away on July 28, 2018, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

A native of Southampton County, he was a son of the late Robert E. Kirkland and Pauline Fuller Kirkland, and was also predeceased by a son, Ronald Wayne Kirkland; three brothers, Robert E. Kirkland Jr., John Calvin “Johnny Buck” Kirkland and William R. “Nuke” Kirkland; his first wife, Edith Griffin Kirkland; and his second wife, Marilyn Hines Kirkland.

Mutt was a member of Boykins Baptist Church where he was a lifetime deacon, a retired manager of Southampton Farm Supply and a WWII Navy veteran.

He was a charter member of the Boykins Fire and Rescue, and was a member of the Boykins Masonic Lodge No. 287.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Bryant Kirkland, a son, David Wilson Kirkland; a stepdaughter, Gretchen Moore (Jeff;) a sister, Katherine R. “Kitty” Futrell; a daughter-in-law, Allison Kirkland; Betty’s children, Dennis Bryant, Larry Bryant and Nancy Bryant Marks; a granddaughter, Jessica Lynn Kirkland; five step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

The graveside service will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 31, in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins, with the Rev. Scott Biggers and the Rev. Raymond Bunn officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Boykins Baptist Church or the Boykins Volunteer Fire Dept. and Rescue Squad.
