COURTLAND

Clifton Eugene “Gene” Fowler, 83, passed away on July 27, 2018. Gene was a native of Southampton County and was a son of the late William Henry and Rebie Holland Fowler. He was also predeceased by a daughter Stacey Ashley Fowler and three brothers William H. “Bud” Fowler, Elmo M. Fowler, and Oscar F. Fowler. Gene was a member of Vincent’s Grove United Methodist Church and was a retired Franklin Area Superintendent for the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 59 years, Natalie Johnson Fowler; two nieces Patsy Ferguson (Peyton) and Wanda Parham; one great nephew Andy Ferguson; one great niece Ashley Murphy (Chuck); and one great great nephew Robbie Murphy.

A Memorial Service will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 29 in Wright Funeral Home in Franklin with Dr. James Michael Ponder officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends at the residence at all times at 23006 Captain John Road, Courtland, and suggests that memorial donations be made to The Children’s Center, 700 Campbell Ave., Franklin, VA 23851 or the American Lung Association, 9702 Gayton Road, Suite 110, Richmond, VA 23238.

Natalie would like to thank the staff at Southampton Memorial Hospital, Dr. Michael Ponder, and the many friends that have helped Gene during this time.
