Gun recovered from traffic stop

Franklin Police officers recovered a loaded firearm after stopping a vehicle in the 1400 block of Rosewood Avenue on Sunday.

According to Capt. Tim Whitt, spokesman for the Franklin Police Department, at 7:22 p.m. officers responded to a shots fired call on Washington Street. Officers were told that the suspect responsible was a black male in a red mustang.

When officers located the vehicle on Rosewood Avenue, they detained the driver and a passenger.

Their investigation led to the recovery of a loaded Smith & Wesson .40 caliber pistol under the front passenger seat.

The arrested suspect has been identified as Mateo Antonio Burnett, 26, of Upatoi Drive, Columbus, Georgia. Burnett was charged with possessing a concealed weapon and was released on a $2,000 unsecured bond.

Officers could not confirm that shots had been fired.
