Local coach hosts golf tournament

SUFFOLK
Dennis Sumblin, head track coach for Franklin High School, recently hosted the fourth annual Track Golf Tournament on June 22 at the Sleepy Hole Golf Course in Suffolk.

Seven teams braved the 90-degree rain-threatened temperatures for a great day of golf. The Tabernacle Baptist Church Golf Team (the Rev. Robert Diggs, Genie Grant, Donald Wall, Cleo Johnson) from Petersburg, repeated as champions with a score of 57.

Vernon Watson, Mario Newby, Juan Vaughan and Dave Willis placed second with a score of 63.

They were last year’s runner-up.
