RICHMOND — On Monday, July 9, 2018, Corliss Maureen Diggs answered God’s call and peacefully entered into fellowship with God.

Corliss Maureen Diggs

Corliss, the youngest daughter of the late John and Jerline Diggs, was born on July 20, 1963, in Southampton County.

She attended public school in Southampton County and furthered her education at Virginia Union University, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and a nursing degree from John Tyler Community College. Corliss was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.

Corliss was a hardworking and dedicated employee. She began her career with Community Associates and Clinical Laboratory Services in August 1986.

In 1990, she was employed at the Medical College of Virginia. Because of her passion for nursing, she joined the staff of McGuire Veterans Hospital Spinal Cord Clinic in 2012, and worked part-time at the Glenburnie Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. You could not find a more caring and reliable person who cared for her patients and wanted them to have the best care she could provide.

Corliss expressed herself by talking with her hands and you knew what she meant when she was holding a conversation with you. Her favorite pastime was enjoying a good meal. Her favorite color was white. She was greatly loved by all who knew her and will be truly missed.

As we all do, there are things we want God to do in our life. Corliss had listed the things she wanted God to do in her life: (1) Read and understand the Word — find a good Bible Study; (2) New job at McGuire Veterans Hospital or wherever He places me; (3) Move into a new home; (4) Finish RN program; and (5) Healing in her body. All of these goals were completed by Corliss with the exception of finishing the RN program, but she did complete the LPN program. Her favorite saying was: “If you ever meet me and forget me, you have lost nothing, but if you ever meet Jesus and forget Him, you have lost everything.”

Although Corliss did not have any children of her own, she was a mother to her great-nephews and great-nieces: Andrew and Aiden Falkins; Gabriel and Autumn Rose; Charnelle Stockton and Isaiah Marbury, supplying them with whatever they may need.

She is survived by her sisters, Denise Stockton, Richmond, Virginia; Carole Butler, Zuni, Virginia; brothers, Reginald Diggs, Ivor, Virginia; John Diggs (Delwanda,) Chesapeake, Virginia; Barry Diggs (Terri,) Portsmouth, Virginia; and Ronald Diggs, Virginia Beach, Virginia; uncle, Charlie Nichols; aunts, Florence Nichols and Thelma Nichols; nieces, Nia Butler, Natasha Rose and Jasmin (Bill) Marbury; nephews, Withrow and Brandon Stockton and Jaylin Diggs; devoted cousin, Ruth Nichols; devoted friends, among them Rosa and Kevin Middleton, Burnetta Harris, Ivy Joyner, Yannette Johnson and Karen Dabney; and a host of cousins and other relatives.

The celebration of life service will be at noon on Saturday, July 14, in Ebenezer Baptist Church, Ivor.

Viewing will be on Friday, July 13, from 4 to 7 p.m. in Shivers Funeral Chapel.

Professional services are entrusted to Shivers Funeral Chapel.
