Felon with firearm arrested

A Franklin man is in custody after having been found to be both a convicted felon and in possession of a weapon. Capt. Tim Whitt, spokesman for the Franklin Police Department, reported the incident.

On Wednesday at approximately 11:20 p.m., officers were patrolling the 700 block of Berkley Court Apartments when they heard gunfire. As they moved toward the area of the gun shots, the police saw three black males standing next to a black SUV. One of the subjects was holding a firearm and discharged a round.

The officers immediately engaged the suspect, and through investigation found him to be  convicted felon.

He was taken into custody, and a Hi Point .45 caliber carbine was recovered.

Arrested was Emmanuel Michael Warren, 35, of the 900 block of Chestnut Street. Warren was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and discharging a firearm in public. He was remanded to Western Tidewater Regional Jail without bond.

Witt reported that to date, Franklin Police have responded to 36 firearms-related incidents, and 14 weapons have been recovered ranging from a .22 caliber revolver to an AK-47 assault rifle.
