COURTLAND
The Southampton County Board of Supervisors will have its meeting on Monday, June 25, at 6 p.m. in the boardroom. The member will discuss highway matters such as a plan for an updated speed study, Route 58 arterial management plan, potential smart scale funding applications and red light photo enforcement on Route 58.

There will also be a public hearing on the zoning ordinance amendments for event venues. The first amendment defines an event venue as “a property with or without permanent structures for the purpose of hosting private social events not open to the general public, with or without live entertainment, where food and drink may be consumed on-site, but which provides no overnight accommodations.”

The second amendment removes camping areas from the list of permitted uses in the recreational facility list as camping are listed elsewhere in the permitted uses listing as requiring a Conditional Use Permit. The amendment will also add “event venues” to the A-1 district recreational facilities listing as a use permitted with a Conditional Use Permit, as are amusement parks fairs, and circuses.

Other topics that will be discussed at the meeting include a continued discussion regarding conceptual alternatives for the Southampton Courthouse, a first reading of the utility scale solar energy ordinance, series 2008 bond refunding opportunity, and the resolution proclaiming Cheroenhaka “Nottoway” Indian Tribe Day.
