On Wednesday, June 13, Southampton High School 2018 graduate Sheppard Mason IV signed his letter of intent to attend North Carolina Wesleyan to continue his education and to participate in track and field at the collegiate level.

He is the son of Sheppard Mason III and Valerie Mason. They joined him on stage as he signed to continue his education and athletic career. In addition to his parents, Sheppard’s teammates, friends now-retired SHS Principal Allene Atkinson, Athletic Director Tim Mason, Assistant Principal Derrick Johnson and Varsity Track Coach Alfred Charity were there to congratulate him on his accomplishments and support him in his future endeavors.

Sheppard said his favorite part of participating in high school has been winning and his teammates. He looks forward to continuing success in college and hopes to win a championship.

After Sheppard signed his letter of intent, Atkinson wished him all the best and congratulated him for his accomplishments. Mason offered words of encouragement to both Sheppard and his parents for his success. Charity added that he is extremely proud of Sheppard and appreciated his father’s participation in helping him become the student athlete he is today.
