Gunfire reported on Washington Street

FRANKLIN

On Friday at 11:46 p.m. Franklin Police officers responded to multiple gunshots being fired on Washington Street.

According to Capt. Tim Whitt, spokesman for the department, upon the officers’ arrival, no suspects were at the scene. The officers began to canvass the area and located multiple cartridge casings of various calibers in the area of Washington Street and Rosewood Avenue.

There were cartridge casings recovered from both sides of the street, indicating that there were two groups of people firing at each other. Two handguns were also recovered from the rear of a residence on Washington Street.

While the officers were investigating, more shots were heard in the area of Madison Street, prompting a secondary response. There were no reported injuries due to the gunfire, however, a vehicle traveling on South Street was damaged when it was struck by bullets.
