Fifty-five boys and young men on Sunday afternoon were encouraged to set goals, persevere in achieving them and then come up with new and challenging ambitions as a way to grow and live a fulfilling life.
The exhortation took place at the Franklin High School auditorium in the presence of family, friends and members of the Franklin-Southampton Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.
That organization had sponsored the re-launched program to recognize young achievers.
They were chosen by principals, teachers and guidance counselors, according to Victor Picot, a member of the local fraternity.
Cornelius N. Hudgins IV, the 26th Eastern Province polemarch, or president, of the fraternity, was the one who spoke to the audience. As a way to engage the audience, everyone was to clap once each time he used the phrase “Just do it.”
Hudgins also told the honorees to remember the ABC’s, such as Accepting challenges, Believe you can achieve them … Expect obstacles, have Faith in the Lord … and be Zealous in working toward those accomplishments.
He called each person a “walking, talking, living, breathing miracle.”
