FRANKLIN
The Franklin High School boys’ 4X100 relay team of Thomas Maxwell, Deontay Watson, Darius Eley, and LaSean Nichols-Porter finished second in the Virginia High School League 1A Outdoor Track & Field Championships, held at East Rockingham High School on Saturday.
The State Runner-Up team ran a time of 45.91 soaking wet and in more rain. Their season best time was 44.44, which they ran at the Region 1A East Championships for Region Runner-Up at Sussex-Central High School on May 24.
Coach Dennis Sumblin said he is “very pleased with his team’s performance. It looked like we were going to win it for a minute, but the state champion 100-meter guy ran us down at the anchor. We’re young so we expect to return to the States next year.”
Sumblin is assisted by Mona Sumblin, Ronnie Adams and Rathmond Collins.
