A Franklin woman has been charged with assaulting her sister and Franklin Police.
According to Capt. Tim Whitt, spokesman for the police department, officers responded on Saturday at 6:17 p.m. to a residence in the 3200 block of North College Drive in reference to a domestic assault. On arrival, they learned that Shavon Alvita Fleetwood, 33, of Cameron Street, had allegedly assaulted her 37-year-old sister.
Whitt described the scene as volatile and said that while officers were investigating, Fleetwood again assaulted her sister in the presence of one of the officers. Police said Fleetwood was intoxicated and that when they attempted to take her into custody, she resisted with violence and assaulted the officers. Police also said that once in custody, she remained violent, caused damage to a patrol car, and threatened to kill one of the officers and to have his family killed as well.
Fleetwood was remanded to the Western Tidewater Regional Jail without bond after being charged with three counts of assault and battery on law enforcement officers, domestic assault and battery, obstruction of justice, destruction of property and resisting arrest.
