Isle of Wight Academy does not plan to expand its facilities to attempt to absorb an anticipated increase in the number of school-age children living in Isle of Wight County.

Headmaster Mark Munford confirmed on Tuesday that IWA’s Board of Directors is content with the size of its current student population. Munford issued this statement after learning of a student population study recently commissioned by Isle of Wight County Public Schools. The study predicts that the completion of all current and proposed housing developments in the county could bring nearly 900 additional students to the county’s school system over the next 12 to 13 years.

“The Board is focused on how we can better serve our current students,” Munford said.

According to IWA’s website, in 2014 the school had a total of 676 students in preschool through 12th grade with a graduating class of 48.
