FRANKLIN — Pastor Dorothy Mae Benson Vaughan, 80, passed away on May 12, 2018, in Sentara Virginia Beach Hospital.
Born in Hertford, North Carolina, to the late Jesse Willie and Clara Mae Cutchins Benson, she was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Andrew Vaughan Sr.
Dorothy was a former assembly line worker at Lipton Tea, a nurse, and did ministry work at local prisons and hospitals.
She was a retired pastor of St. Paul Holiness Church in Sedley.
Survivors include three daughters, Teresa V. Bane, Andrea V. Cox and Dorothy V. Garrett (Jim;) one son, Joseph Andrew “Andy” Vaughan Jr.; 11 grandchildren, C.D. Bane, Spring Harris, Daniel Baggett, Kelly Baggett, Eric Cobb, Robert Cobb, Crystal Blythe, Nikki Babb, Andrew Vaughan, Victoria Brito and Shannon Vaughan; eight great-grandchildren, Becca Vaughan, Emiliano Brito, Meadow, Ryder and Zoey Harris, Daniel and Christopher Baggett and Carlee Babb; seven sisters, Beatrice Ross, Carolyn Murphy, Willie Williams, Pearl Whitehead, Janie Babb, Shirley Ferguson and Betty Raiford; one brother, Jesse Benson; and a special friend, Gary Kluesener.
The memorial service will be at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, in Wright Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home, and requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
