Franklin Police arrest suspected purse snatcher

The Franklin Police Department has made an arrest in connection with a purse snatching that occurred on Saturday afternoon in the Franklin Walmart.

According to Capt. Tim Whitt, spokesman for the department, officers responded to Walmart at 12:10 p.m., where they learned that a woman had her purse stolen inside the store.

Officers obtained a description of the suspect and a direction of travel.

Officers located the suspect, Michael Lamar Williams, 41, of Dorchester Street, at the McDonald’s on Armory Drive and took him into custody.

The stolen purse was recovered, and Williams has been charged with grand larceny and larceny of property over $200 with intent to sell or distribute.

Williams has been remanded to the Western Tidewater Regional Jail without bond.
