FRANKLIN — Shirley Porter Drake, 96, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2018, in the East Pavilion.

Mrs. Drake was a native of Southampton County, and was a daughter of the late Fenton A. Porter and Susie Miles Porter Davis Coleman.

She was also predeceased by a grandson, Roger Wilson Drake III; five brothers, Thomas H. Porter, Benjamin R. Porter, Leslie F. Porter Sr., David Thomas Porter and Robert L. Davis; and two sisters, Doris P. Kitchen and Frances P. Babb.

Mrs. Drake was a graduate of Boykins High School, and had been an active member of Franklin Baptist Church.

She had been a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Southampton Memorial Hospital and had been a long-time Pink Lady at the hospital.

Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Roger Wilson Drake Jr. and his wife, Ruth; and Randy Bert Drake and his wife, Gladys; two brothers, Irvin M. Porter of Franklin; and Raymond C. Davis, Sr. and his wife, Peggy, of Courtland; six grandchildren, Alison Paige Drake of Wilmington, North Carolina; Randy Brian Drake and wife, Jennifer, of Meridian, Indiana; Cindy Drake Drewry and Mike Hinrichs of Williamsburg; Betty Drake Beard of Virginia Beach; Terri Lynne Drake of Williamsburg; and Timothy Walker Drake and wife, Jenny, of Franklin; 11 great-grandchildren, Decker Brian Drake, Conley Mason Drake, Samuel Blount Drewry, Victoria Wilson Drewry, Megan Nicole Drewry, Amanda Beard Urie and husband, Jordan, Adam Douglas Beard, Ashley Loren Beard, Jessica Lynne Wigley, Steven Owen Wigley and Ethan Ray Drake; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 24, in Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Gibson officiating. The burial will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m., in the funeral home, and suggests that memorial donations be made to Franklin Baptist Church.

The family would like to thank Mrs. Drake’s caregivers: Beverly, Kimberly, Cynthia , Tonya, Molly, Rico and the staffs at the Village at Woods Edge and East Pavilion for their thoughtful care of our mother.
