James Lewis Bryant Sr.

COURTLAND — James Lewis Bryant Sr., 89, passed away on April 13, 2018, in his home.
Born in Franklin on March 22, 1929, Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Clinton and Rebie Gray Bryant; his brother, Clay Bryant; and sister, Idra B. Jennings.
Lewis was a graduate of Courtland High School, and a corporal in the Army during the Korean Conflict, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a farmer, owner of Shady Side Drive-In, an employee of Union Camp, and had retired from the USDA Soil Conservation Service after 30 years.
Lewis was a member of Vincent’s Grove United Methodist Church, the Marks and Indiantown hunt clubs and enjoyed radio-controlled airplanes, hunting and fishing.
Lewis is survived by his wife of 63 years, Louise Robbins Bryant; two daughters, Rose Bryant (Mal Argondizza) and Robin Eason (H.G.;) a son, Jimmy Bryant (Ellen;) a sister, Judy Zoellner; a sister-in-law, Marian R. Francis; five grandchildren, John Bryant (Shandra,) Grady Eason (Nicole,) Will Bryant, Maizie Argondizza (friend Cory) and Alan Argondizza (Serena); and three great-grandchildren, Landon Bryant, George Eason, and Evelyn Eason.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, in Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Julie Larch officiating. The burial will follow at Vincent’s Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home, and suggests that memorial donations be made to Vincent’s Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Randy Burgess, 23359 Hanging Tree Road, Courtland, VA 23837.
