Felon arrested for gun possession

FRANKLIN
A North Carolina man is in jail following his arrest early Thursday.

According to Franklin Police Department spokesman Capt. Tim Whitt, officers responded at approximately 12:44 a.m. to a call about a suspicious person at the Wendy’s on 1371 Armory Drive.

On arrival, an officer located a vehicle parked in the drive thru-lane and the driver asleep behind the wheel.

The officer observed an open alcohol container in the car and also observed a pistol in the pocket of the driver’s jacket.

Once additional police arrived, the driver was awakened and removed from the car.

A loaded 9mm pistol was taken from him. Upon investigation it was revealed that the driver, 33-year-old Devin Levin Gatling of Gates, North Carolina, is a convicted felon.

He was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, concealed weapon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Gatling was remanded to Western Tidewater Regional Jail without bond.
