Many facets to working together for greater whole

To the Editor:

First, I would like to thank Dr. Carolyn Modlin for her great editorial to The Tidewater News last week.

Secondly, but very seriously, as a lifelong resident of Southampton County, I have been blessed to know so many great folks who have worked for the greater whole on so many levels: schools, churches, fire departments, scouting, agriculture, historical preservation, and for all of us, County government. There are so many facets of working together to make a great place to live, work and raise a family. Two individuals, among many, that come to my mind who have contributed in countless ways to most all of us in all these aforementioned ways, are Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Updike. I know of no two individuals who have contributed or put any more of their own heart and soul into so much for our county and have done so for years. For that, I and many others, are so thankful.

Thirdly, I would speak on behalf of Dr. Alan Edwards for always and consistently listening, yes, truly listening, to what citizens of our county say as to their feelings about our issues. He performs his duties to his elected position as he should, representing his people. Our voices are always heard, and the ethical high road is taken, even when it’s not popular for him. He recognizes we voted him into his office and his vote mirrors ours. Thank you sir, for doing your job in an outstanding, exemplary manner.

Our next Southampton County Board meeting is Monday, April 23, at 7 p.m., at the administrative building in Courtland. ALL voters need to do yourselves a favor and educate yourselves regarding what is working and not working with your votes and your taxpayer dollars.
