Molly Marks, Harvey Hess exchange vows in Manteo, N.C.

Miss Marguerite “Molly” Mary Marks of Franklin, Virginia, and Mr. Harvey Kendall Hess III of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, were married on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017, in The Pavilion at Pirate’s Cove Marina in Manteo, North Carolina.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dale T. Marks of Franklin.

She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Marguerite Kannan and the late Mr. Louis Kannan, and Mrs. Eugenia Council and the late Mr. Robert Marks Jr. of Capron, Virginia.

The groom is the son of Mrs. Kathleen Smyth Hess and Mr. Harvey Hess Jr. of Kitty Hawk.

He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. James G. Smyth, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Harvey K. Hess Sr.

The bride was escorted down the aisle by her father.

She wore a gown made of French lace and tulle and Italian silk organza from the design house of Modern Trousseau. A double ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. Jonathan Mills.

Beautiful ceremony string music was provided by Club Violin of Nags Head, North Carolina. Many friends of the bride and groom traveled from afar to attend the couples wedding.

After the ceremony, the family and friends of the couple enjoyed festive music and a delicious cocktail hour.

The bride and groom performed their first dance as man and wife to “God Only Knows” by The Beach Boys.

After the bride’s father welcomed guests to the reception and the Rev. Mills blessed the food, everyone enjoyed a delicious buffet provided by J.K.’s Restaurant of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina and danced the night away to tunes provided by The Adrian Duke Project of Charlottesville, Virginia.

The couple will enjoy a week-long honeymoon to Iceland in April, and plan to reside in Kill Devil Hills.

A bridal shower was given on Saturday, June 17, in Kitty Hawk, by Mrs. Stacey Tillett. Everyone enjoyed the wonderful food, decorations and fellowship.

A fiesta-themed couples engagement party was given for Molly and Harvey on Saturday, Aug. 26, in the home of Blair and Laura Meads.

The Meads were the hosts, along with Jake and Melissa Overton and Kenneth and Krista Payne. Everyone enjoyed being outside by the beautiful fireplace and pool eating delicious Mexican food and having drinks.

A Pampered Chef party was given for the bride on Saturday, Sept 23, by her best friend, Kelsey Lowe, and her second mom, Gwen Johnson. Molly received many items for her kitchen along with recipes that her family and friends brought to her.

A wedding brunch was held in honor of Molly on Sunday, Nov. 5, by Mrs. Anne Pittman, Mrs. Kim Nixon and Mrs. Sarah Stephens. The party was held in the stately home of Mrs. Pittman. The day was filled with the bride’s close friends from Franklin, Sweet Briar and the Outer Banks.

A bridal luncheon was hosted on Friday, Dec. 8, at Basnight’s Lone Cedar Cafe in Nags Head, by the bride’s grandmother, Marguerite Kannan, and her aunts, Mary Ann May and Theresa Kannan. The restaurant was beautifully decorated for Christmas, and it was the perfect event to start the wedding festivities for the weekend.

The rehearsal dinner was held on Friday, Dec. 8, at Rooster’s Southern Kitchen in Kill Devil Hills. This was given by Mrs. Kathleen Hess and Mr. Harvey Hess Jr. A delicious buffet was served and everyone enjoyed the toast given by family and friends.
