Rex Douglas Marlowe

MT. GILEAD, N.C. — Rex Douglas Marlowe, 71, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018, in his home.

Mr. Marlowe was born on April 3, 1946, in Fremont, North Carolina.
He graduated from Atlantic Christian College with a bachelor’s degree in business education.
Douglas was an educator for more than 40 years with the Virginia Department of Correctional Education. He served as the regional representative to and secretary for the Virginia Association of Correctional Educators in Richmond, Virginia.
Additionally, he served as an adjunct professor at Paul D. Camp Community College in Franklin, Virginia.
Douglas’s interests reflected his love of history. He was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, Virginia Division, Urquhart-Gillette Camp 1471.
Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, Rex and Mildred Combs Marlowe.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda “Smitty” Smith Marlowe; daughter, Dr. Elizabeth Paige Marlowe of Richmond; a brother, Michael Ray Marlowe, his wife, Debbie, and family of Greensboro, North Carolina.
The gathering of family and friends to share memories and music will be on Saturday, March 3, at 2p.m., in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Norwood, North Carolina.
