SUFFOLK — Doris Elizabeth Bailey Joyner Bryant, 99, passed away on Feb. 25, 2018.

Doris was born in Boykins, and was a former resident of Franklin. She was a daughter of the late Olie M. Bailey and Annie Mae Cutchins Bailey. Doris was raised in Como, North Carolina, where she attended Buckhorn Baptist Church.

She was a retired beautician, and a member of Sebrell Methodist Church from 1937 until its closing in recent years.

She was preceded in death by a second mother, Lessie Hatfield Bailey; first husband, Johnnie Joyner; second husband, John Bryant; siblings, Olie Mae Culpepper, Mildred Bailey and C.C. Bailey; and son-in-law, Bobby Cooper.

Doris is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Mae Joyner Cooper of Suffolk; grandchildren, Russell Cooper (Nancy) of Virginia Beach; Clarke Cooper (Julie) and Dana Mitchell (John) of Suffolk; great-grandchildren, Jimmy, Aaron, Luke, Joshua and Celeste Cooper, Dori and Clare Mitchell; sisters, Patsy Parker and Brenda Futrell (Milton); brother, Wayne Bailey (Judy); many nieces and nephews; dear friend, Nick Nichols; special cat, Tom (sent to Doris by God;) and her nurse, Heather.

The graveside service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland.

The family will receive friends where she lived with her daughter at 806 General Pickett Drive, Suffolk.
