FRANKLIN — Julia Peele Jernigan, 74, passed away on Feb. 21, 2018, in Southampton Memorial Hospital.

She was born on April 9, 1943, in Colerain, North Carolina, to the late John and Athia Peele, and was also predeceased by a brother, Spencer Peele, and a grandson, Ryan P. Jackson.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 58 years, Richard H. Jernigan; her children, Debbie Jackson (Mike), Elaine Umphlette (Larry) and Richie Jernigan (Nikki); five grandchildren, Paul Jackson (Ayumi), Taylor Jackson (Franci), Michael Parker, Bradley and Nicholas Jernigan; one great-grandchild, Logan Parker; a sister, Rachel Chopps (Dan); along with many relatives and friends.
Julia was a graduate of Ahoskie High School, and enjoyed bowling, bingo, playing cards, and spending time with her family.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25, in Wright Funeral Home with Pastor Preston Jernigan officiating. Burial will follow at Southampton Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, and at the home of Richard and Julia after the service.
