The Franklin High School wrestling team, coached by Daniel Johnson, placed sixth in the State 1A Tournament in the Salem Civic Center this past weekend. Principal Travis Felts provided this information to the paper.
He stated that this is the highest an FHS team has ever finished at the state level.
“This was our second consecutive Top 10 finish in wrestling — the 2017 team finished in 10th place,” said Felts.
“Individually, we had six wrestlers receive a medal. Finishing in sixth place in their weight class was Takym Falu and Lee Curtis. Finishing in fourth place was Kemond Rogers and Josh Johnson. Finishing as State Runner Up for the 145-pound weight class was Da-Shaun Butts.
“Congratulations to the entire team on a great season.”
In other school sports news, Felts said the girls basketball team traveled to Essex High School last Friday, but lost to the Trojans 66-40.
“The season is over, but the team showed much improvement compared to recent years,” he said.
