Learning sets of skills can be rewarding

How can you make learning skills for a career both fun and practical? If you’re a student, one way is to join the national SkillsUSA organization, which Southampton High School is fortunate to have available. Through the oversight of Rita Yeary, Tommy Hagans and Jayson Williams, the participants develop abilities that can serve them in the long run for a fulfilling career.

Recently the school chapter hosted a district competition to demonstrate not only what they have learned so far, but also to test their abilities against other schools. We’re pleased to report that several earned first place honors, and now look forward to the state conference this April in Fredericksburg. You can see some of those students on A6 in today’s edition.

Kudos to the advisors and students for their success and willingness to lead and learn for the future.
