Replacing supervisor on Planning was underhanded

To the Editor:
Dr. Alan Edwards has served both the Board of Supervisors and the Planning Commission with integrity and dignity for three decades. His positions on matters brought before the board seem to always reflect what he feels is best for the county and the people of the county, not what is best for himself or a few friends.

In doing this, he has often been at odds with other members of the board. People with lesser resolution and courage tend to follow the lead of others in order to remain in good standing with their fellow board members. Dr. Edwards has always put his concern for the county ahead of maintaining popularity with the board.

It seems pretty obvious some board members have decided to punish him for exercising his right to vote what he feels is right. It is also obvious these irate board members were informally “in touch” with other board members, until they had all the members of the Board of Supervisors agreeing to what is certainly an underhanded act, if not an illegal one.

Mr. [Bruce] Phillips should consider himself a tool of sorts in the vendetta against Dr. Edwards, and if he accepts this appointment to replace Dr. Edwards on the Planning Commission, as he was told to do, it will tell us two things about Mr. Phillips: one, he does not mind being part of an underhanded, vindictive, political act; and two, he does what he is told by other board members.

If we citizens are lucky, Mr. Phillips may prove to have the integrity that Dr. Edwards has, and decline the appointment.
