U.S. Route 58 (Southampton Parkway) currently has alternating lane closures in both directions at its intersection with Arringdale Road (State Route 718) in Drewryville due to a tractor-trailer crash. Officials with the Virginia Department of Transportation are warning motorists to expect delays.
As of 10:56 a.m., VDOT’s traffic monitoring website, 511virginia.org, reported that traffic backups were at approximately two miles with congestion at around 1.5 miles from the scene.
Maj. Gene Drewery, spokesman for the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office, said that the Virginia State Police are working the incident. Sgt. Michelle Anaya, spokeswoman for the VSP, described the scene as a three-vehicle crash with injuries, one vehicle of which is a VDOT truck.
A state trooper is currently on scene, she said. The VSP became involved at approximately 9:38 a.m. after receiving a call from the Sheriff’s Office requesting that a state police unit respond. A MedFlight unit has since been requested and an injured subject has been transported.
An update will be provided when more details are learned. In the meantime, VDOT advises that motorists visit 511virginia.org, virginiaroads.org, call 511, download Virginia’s free 511 mobile app, listen to Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) 1680 AM, or call the Traffic Information Line at 361-3016.
