CHESAPEAKE
Isle of Wight Academy won its first conference game, defeating StoneBridge 52-30 in Chesapeake on Friday night.

The Chargers were led by Grant Worthy’s 17 points; teammate Colby Williams had 12.

The Cavaliers got 17 points from Noah Fesl in his first game against the Chargers this year.

The two teams met Dec. 29 as part of the Peninsula Catholic High School Holiday Classic tournament, a game IWA won 72-39 by making a season-high 11 three-pointers. Fesl did not play in that contest.

IWA wasted no time in jumping on StoneBridge, outscoring the Cavaliers 16-3 in the first period on a trio of baskets by junior Hunter Hayden.

The teams tied 8-8 in the second, but the Chargers dominated 18-6 in the third period. Worthy had 12 of his points in that span.

The win moved IWA’s record to 3-9, 1-4 in the Metro Athletic Conference. Worthy will remain among the conference leaders in scoring in this week’s statistics with his 17.1-points-per-game average.

The Chargers’ three wins this year have all come when they made six threes or more.

Last Tuesday, IWA didn’t fare as well in their 60-41 defeat at Broadwater Academy in Exmore. The Chargers completed only 14 field goals in the game, though Worthy tied for the game high with 16 points. The Vikings’ Ahmad Scarborough and Nathan Crumb both had 16, as well.

Casey, averaging more than 10 points per game this season, did not play in that game due to illness.

The Chargers return to action Friday night when they travel to Hampton Christian for a 7 p.m. game. The Warriors defeated IWA at Jester Gym 54-46 on Dec. 12.
