Since the temperatures mercifully began leaping upward starting on Monday, all that’s been missing are songbirds and the flowers that bloom in the spring, tra la. But for now we will all have to settle for just being able to wash our cars.

Don’t get used to the upswing shown on the thermometer, though. Real spring weather is a few months away.

Would that we could promise they’ll be no more such snowfall and biting cold, but that’s not in our power. Sorry. Contrary to popular misconception, media are not responsible for global warming or the next ice age … whichever comes first.

On a more serious note, we want to point out that based on accident reports, the public largely followed law enforcement’s pleas to stay off the roads unless necessary.

True, there were more than a handful of vehicular accidents that took place during last week’s snow storm, but they were without injuries.

Let’s hope that Punxsutawney Phil the groundhog predicts an early spring this year.
