DREWRYVILLE
A Southampton County child is reportedly going to be OK after being kicked in the head by a horse this past weekend. This is according to Drewryville Volunteer Fire Department officials’ statement on Monday morning.

Both Drewryville’s and Capron’s volunteer fire departments responded on Saturday around 3 p.m. to reports of a child having been injured by the animal’s kick. No details are available on how the incident occurred but the location has been identified as just outside of Drewryville.

According to information posted on Drewryville VFD’s Facebook page, Assistant Chief Wyatt Whitby was the first to arrive on the scene, and provided initial care until Capron’s Medic 35 unit arrived. Drewryville and Capron were then dispatched to set up a landing zone for a Life Evac helicopter.

Snowy and icy road conditions caused extended response times and necessitated the landing zone being set up approximately four to five miles from the scene of the accident. Captain Nick Grizzard of Drewryville VFD had command of the landing zone.
