SEDLEY — Mary Ann Hines Scott of Vicksville Road made her peaceful transition to her heavenly home on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017.

She was born on Jan. 11, 1929, the daughter of the late Robert C. and Virgie Bradshaw Hines and the wife to the late Bert Lee Scott Sr. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Leon and Samuel Hines; and stepson, Melvin Bradshaw.
Mary Ann was a lifelong member of the Sedley community where she was well known and loved. She was often referred to as Mama Scott by those who loved and respected her. Mary Ann was educated in Southampton County Public Schools. She was a member of St. Luke United Church of Christ, Sedley, Virginia, where she was a faithful member until her illness. She was a member of the Missionary Circle, now referred to as the Women’s Fellowship ministry. She was a member of the Rose of Sharon chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Family and friends were her passion, and she enjoyed being around her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends.
She leaves to cherish her memory 10 children, Raymond Lee Hines (Elizabeth) of Windsor, Virginia; Wilma Jean Williams (James) of Sedley; Betty Scott Joyner of Sedley; Bert L. Scott Jr. (Brenda) of Newport News, Virginia; Hyler Scott of Chesapeake, Virginia; Darlene Scott of Suffolk, Virginia; Walter Scott (Connye) of Jonesboro, Georgia; Wallace Scott of Chesapeake, Virginia; Glen Scott (Denise) of Fredericksburg, Virginia; and Alan Scott (Pamela) of Murfreesboro, North Carolina; 35 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; four adopted children, James Warren (Vivian), Nathaniel Warren (Elizabeth), Cullen Ricks (Patricia) and Catherine Nicholson; one sister-in-law, Fannie Mae Hines; three nephews; seven nieces; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, relatives and friends.
The wake has been cancelled. The funeral will be on Saturday, Jan. 6, at 11 a.m. in St. Paul Holiness Church, 29491 Sycamore Ave., Sedley, where Vice Bishop Randolph Warren is the host pastor; the Rev. J.J. Ferguson is delivering the eulogy. The committal and benediction will be in Southview Cemetery.
A traditional service with dignity will be given by Wm. M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home Inc., 224 S. Main St.
