FRANKLIN
Following Del. Rick Morris’ announcement earlier in 2017 that he would not seek reelection for a third term in the 64th District, a handful of candidates quickly let it know they were very interested in taking his seat.

The candidates came down to a Democrat, Rebecca Colaw, and a Republican, Emily Brewer, both of Suffolk. Voters chose Brewer to succeed.

Overall, Franklin also favored Brewer, giving her 887 votes (62.46 percent) over Colaw at 533 (37.54 percent.) Areas where Southampton County residents could vote for the 64th candidates also strongly supported the Republican at 1,730 votes (71.75 percent) over Colaw’s 679 (28.16 percent.)

Neighboring Isle of Wight gave Brewer 8,369 votes.
