COURTLAND
A Franklin man was found guilty of murder in the first degree by a jury on Thursday in Southampton County Circuit Court.

Bobby Boone Jr. was on trial for the alleged killing of Tanisha Freeman on Nov. 21, 2016, in her residence in the Stevens Woods apartment complex on Oak Trail in Courtland. Following a call the next morning about a possible homicide at the place, deputies found her body, which had been repeatedly stabbed.

A spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office stated at the time that the event appeared to be the result of a domestic dispute.

Freeman was the mother of the couple’s two children.

Judge L. Wayne Farmer presided at the jury trial, which listened to testimony beginning on Tuesday.

Sentencing is scheduled for the morning of Tuesday, March 27.

In mid-November, Freeman was remembered in a candlelight vigil that was sponsored by family, friends and members of the Genieve Shelter.
