FRANKLIN
One way to get the most out of the season is by participating in local holiday activities, such as the upcoming parades throughout Western Tidewater or, more to the point, the annual Candlelight Christmas Tour. And look, there are only 12 days left.

Chuck Gatten of Meadow Lane reaches up to put a decoration on a Christmas tree in his home, which will be on the tour Dec. 10 from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets are only $20 in advance; $25 the day of the event. — Submitted | Patti Rabil

The event will feature five homes in Franklin on Sunday, Dec. 10, from 4 to 8:30 p.m. The following people will participate: Betsy Brantley at 412 Meadow Lane; Chuck Gatten at 220 Meadow Lane;

Bob and Beth Luck at The Village at Woods Edge, 104 Village Drive;  David and tour chairwoman Patti Rabil on 125 Crescent Drive; and Ray and Linda Smith at 217 Meadow Lane;

This event is being presented by the Franklin Garden Club, which is a member of the Garden Club of Virginia.

“Profits from ticket sales will sponsor garden club projects throughout our community, such as the spring garden tour in 2019, the wreath-making workshops, door decorations and conservation,” Rabil said. Part of the money also goes to Richmond for preservation and conservation of historic homes and gardens as well as state parks throughout Virginia

The Village will provide refreshments, which includes a complimentary glass of wine with each ticket from 5 to 8:30 p.m.

Tickets cost $20 in advance and these are still available through Saturday, Dec. 9, at the following community merchants: Alphabet Soup, Cat’s Meow, the Downtown Franklin Association, the Franklin-Southampton Chamber of Commerce, Fred’s Restaurant (only site for credit card ticket sales) and the Peanut Patch Shoppe in Courtland.

The cost is $25 per ticket the day of the tour and can be bought at St. Jude Catholic Church, 1014 Clay St.

Satellite parking with shuttle service is required for the three homes on Meadow Lane, and this will be available at the church after first checking in at the vestibule.
