WINDSOR

Windsor High School senior Emily Jane “E.J.” Bankson signed her letter of intent to play softball for George Mason University on Tuesday. The signing ceremony took place at 3:30 p.m. in the high school’s new collaboration space.

Bankson, 16, has played softball since age 7 and has been on Windsor’s varsity softball team all four years of high school. She also has played on a regional softball team, Orion Hunter, comprised of students from Windsor High School, Nansemond-Suffolk Academy and other area schools, for the past seven years. She plans to major in either forensic science or special education at GMU.

“I just loved the school and the area it’s in,” she said, when asked about why she chose GMU. “Washington DC gives a lot of opportunities past college.”

The university is located in Fairfax, Virginia, approximately 19 miles outside the Washington DC area.
