Franklin man charged with malicious wounding

An alcohol-fueled argument between a father and son turned physical on Saturday, leaving one man injured and the other under arrest. This information comes from Capt. Tim Whitt, spokesman for the Franklin Police Department.

Officers responded to a residence on W. Third Avenue at approximately 7:06 p.m. in reference to a man with a head injury. Upon arrival, officers learned that the victim, Gregory Diggs Sr., 56, had been drinking with his son, Gregory Diggs Jr., 32, of Pearl Street. The two began arguing, which turned into a fight.

It is alleged that Diggs Jr. struck Diggs Sr. on the head several times with a metal pipe. Diggs Sr. was transported to an area trauma center via air ambulance for treatment. Police located Diggs Jr.  at his residence and arrested him for malicious wounding. He was remanded to Western Tidewater Regional Jail without bond.
