The Lady Indians defeated both Lakeland and Colonial Heights in this week’s region 3A quarterfinal and semi-final matches. The Indians beat Lakeland 25-10, 25-7 and 25-13 and Colonial Heights 25-12, 25-12 and 25-20.

The girls are playing excellent volleyball and working so well together as a team. It’s a great time of the year to get better when we are put into situations where we have to win to keep playing.

At the beginning of the season we set our goals high and are achieving them. These girls are not only teammates, but also friends or even family, and their hard work is paying off. But we are not done yet!

Some standouts from the Lakeland game include: Ashlyn Edwards with 2 aces, 6 assists and 4 kills; Emma Drake with 3 aces, 4 blocks and 8 kills; Hilary Newlon had 5 aces; and Jamey Bunn had 3 aces, 8 assists, and 4 kills.

Standouts from the Colonial Heights match were Jamey Bunn with 8 aces, 11 assists and 10 kills; Hannah Bradshaw had 2 aces and 4 kills; Ashlyn Edwards had 14 assists and 5 kills; and Emma Drake had 10 kills for the night.

The Indians will play Park View for the 3A Region Finals on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 6 p.m., in Southampton High School. The Indians have defeated the Dragons all three times they have faced each other this year.

Park View defeated York and New Kent to get to the regional finals. Both teams will advance to the state quarterfinals.

The Region A Champion will host the state quarterfinal match against the Region B Runner Up and the Region A Runner Up will travel to the Region B Champion.
