Thank God for baseball

By the time you read this, the Houston Astros will have either won the World Series or lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in Tuesday night’s game six, forcing a winner-take-all game seven on Wednesday evening. We are by no means rooting for the Astros to lose on Tuesday, but for baseball fans the seventh game of a World Series is always something to look forward to, and given the spectacular nature of this year’s Fall Classic so far, a game seven would likely be epic.

Baseball’s postseason this year has been full of drama and excitement and, quite frankly, couldn’t have possibly come at a better time. Even if only for a few short weeks, baseball has provided much needed relief from the hand wringing over national politics and the locally divisive issue of a courthouse referendum. Terrence Mann, the fictional character portrayed by James Earl Jones in the movie “Field of Dreams,” famously said of baseball that, “It reminds of us of all that once was good and could be again.”

Truer words have rarely been spoken.
