Southampton High School Indians lost to the visiting — and challenging — Park View Dragons, but only by two points at 36-34 on Friday.

The hosts scored first, though not until a little over 6 minutes in the game, and with an extra point  they stood at 7-0 through the rest of the first quarter.

Less than three minutes into the second quarter, the Dragons earned six points, then the Indians got another touchdown and a conversion point at 5:52 left, putting them at 14-6. That lead was tied 14-all by the Dragons a mere 18 seconds later. Park View also went on to get ahead at 22-14 with a little over three minutes in the quarter.

The Indians earned another touchdown and one-point extra at 2:11 left, and kept the score at 21-22 through the remainder of the first half.

Park View gained and held its lead throughout the third quarter when the team got its next touchdown and a two-point conversion at 5:38, putting it at 30-21 over Southampton.

The Indians started to catch up with a touchdown at less than 30 seconds in the game, making the score 30-28.

Park View didn’t get another goal until 3:07 left. While it might have seemed that the Dragons had the game at 36-28, the Indians then pushed through to gain a touchdown — but no conversion — with 36.1 seconds remaining, putting them at a nail-biting 36-34.

Southampton fought to hard to gain another opportunity to win, but Park View would have none of that happening.

On Friday, Nov. 3, the Indians will go to Franklin and compete against the Broncos for their final games in the regular season. Game time is at 7 p.m.
