COURTLAND — Timothy Dowling Parsons, 62, died peacefully after a brief illness in Franklin, Virginia, on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017, surrounded by his loving sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews.

Tim is predeceased by his parents, Dale J. Parsons Sr. and Belle Farmer Parsons.
His survivors include three brothers, Dale Jr. (Ginny) of Hana, Hawaii; Douglas (Heather) of Chesapeake; and Brian of Norfolk; four sisters, Susan Kitchen (Mark) of Franklin; Patty Bryant (Mac) of Courtland; Judy Parsons (George Turner) of Wakefield; and Mary Jones (Mark) of Wilmington, North Carolina; 11 nieces and nephews; and two great-nieces.
Tim was born in Newport News, Virginia, on Dec. 7, 1954. After attending high school at Newport News High and graduating from Menchville High School, he served in the United States Marine Corps. Tim was a sound and lighting technician in the 1970s and 1980s for the bands Boot Hill Express and Thunder Road. After that, he went on to work as a service writer for a number of automobile dealerships.
In recent years, Tim was the owner of Franklin Automotive, as well as sports director and newsperson for WLQM Radio in Franklin.
He was most recently employed by Priority Automotive in Chesapeake, Virginia.
Tim, who never met a stranger, was widely known for his quick wit and friendly, easygoing manner. In his spare time, he enjoyed surfing the Internet and serving as “curator” of the Parsons Family Museum at his home in Courtland, Virginia.
Visitation will be on Friday, Nov. 3, from 6 to 8 p.m., in Wright Funeral Home.
The funeral will be on Saturday, Nov. 4, at 1 p.m., in High Street United Methodist Church on Camp Parkway with the Rev. Nathan Decker officiating. The graveside service will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News, where Tim will be buried next to his parents, Dale and Belle Parsons.
The family will receive visitors at 605 Quail Roost Road, Franklin.
