Since 1908, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. has implemented programs of service impacting countless lives.

The 2014-2018 International Program focuses on Launching New Dimensions of Service.  Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, through its 290,000 members and 1,005 chapters, have an opportunity to address community needs with programs in five target areas: Educational Enrichment; Health Promotion; Family Strengthening; Environmental Ownership; and Global Impact.

The sorority expands its community presence of these initiatives through International Community Impact Days.

Oct. 16 was designated as an International Community Impact Day addressing Childhood Hunger (Family Strengthening Target). The ladies of Lambda Psi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. presented a check to Cheryl G. Bowers, supervisor of Southampton County Schools Food Service, in the amount of $300.

According to Bowers, this will provide lunch for approximately 127 students in Southampton County Schools.
