Residents are asked to be alert to an ongoing scam. Capt. Tim Whitt, spokesman for the Franklin City Police Department, said that customers of Franklin Power are receiving calls from an 800 number. A person claiming to be a representative of the city, is telling the person that their power will be cut off in 40 minutes for nonpayment; however, they can avoid the cut off by paying over the phone.
To date, he added, no one has fallen for the scam.
“This is not a legitimate way of doing business,” said Whitt. “Anyone who may receive one of these calls should hang up on the caller.”
