Members of the Bahai Faith have particular reason to celebrate their beliefs next Saturday.

That’s when they’ll observe the 200th anniversary of the birth of Baha’u’llah, the founder of their belief system.

Locally, two members are organizing an area observance with a program on Oct. 28 from 3 to 5 p.m. in  the Tech Theater at the Regional Workforce Development Center of Paul D. Camp Community College.

Helen Mehtzun and Simret Mehtzun, who said they volunteer for the Franklin Parks and Recreation Department, explained that among the tenets of their faith they believe in one God who loves His creation. Further, He reveals himself throughout history by divine messengers such as Moses, Buddha, Jesus and Muhammad. Baha’u’llah, who lived from 1817-1892, has also been one of them.

Core to the faith is that “world peace is achievable,” said Helen who, in the Bahai, is equal with her husband. She added they were married in the Shrine of the Bab in Haifa, Israel.

Such a goal doesn’t come by merely waiting for other people to do the job. Instead, it’s everyone’s responsibility to work toward that peace. Those in the faith live by the practice of “How am I going to be of service to others?”
