FRANKLIN
The Franklin Police Department, according to spokesman Capt. Tim Whitt, is pursuing a charge against a school bus driver with Franklin City Public Schools following an accident on Oct. 13, in which the driver rear-ended a 2010 Mercury.

That Friday, at approximately 3:15 p.m., the bus collided with the Mercury at the intersection of South Street and Edwards Street in downtown Franklin.

The crash resulted in minor damage to both vehicles and the driver of the Mercury, a 32-year-old Franklin woman, alleged injury and was transported from the scene to Southampton Memorial Hospital.

There were two secondary students on the bus at the time of the accident, but neither was injured.

Officers dispatched to the scene recommended in their accident report that the driver of the school bus be charged with following too closely.

Kelvin Edwards Sr., deputy superintendent and spokesman for Franklin City Public Schools, said that the driver submitted to drug and alcohol testing as part of the division’s protocol whenever there is a bus incident. At present, the division has taken no action against the driver. The incident will be considered a personnel matter until the division receives the results of the testing.

The driver has been employed with FCPS for approximately two years.
