Will supervisors listen to their constituents?

To the Editor:

For those who are not aware, the Southampton County Board of Supervisors is proposing giving a $30,000 annual subsidy to the Cypress Cove Country Club for its golf course. This is not what our hard-earned tax dollars are supposed to support.

The proposed subsidy to the Cypress Cove Country Club is supposed to again be on the agenda at the Southampton County Board of Supervisors meeting on Monday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m. Go to the meeting if you can or call your County Board of Supervisor members if you can’t go to the meeting.

This proposed subsidy will pass if the Southampton County Board of Supervisors do not hear from the taxpayers. We must let our Board of Supervisor members know there will be a political price to pay if they vote for this subsidy to the Cypress Cove Country Club.

I attended the Southampton County Board of Supervisors meeting on Sept. 25. Only one board member, Dr. [Alan] Edwards was totally against this proposed subsidy, and board member Bruce Phillips questioned the subsidy. Thanks to them!

The other board member spoke in favor of the subsidy. Shame on them!

From the members of the public speaking at the meeting, there were many, many that were opposed to this subsidy, including some members of the Cypress Cove Country Club.

Only officers and members of the Cypress Cove Country Club spoke in favor of the $30,000 annual subsidy, even though the Cypress Cove Country Club claims the club did not request this funding from the county.

Now the question is will the Southampton County Board of Supervisors listen to their constituents and vote no to this subsidy or will they turn there backs on their constituents and approve this subsidy?
